Campaign tracking

UTM Builder Free

Tag any landing page URL with clean, lowercase campaign parameters, then copy it in one click.

How it works

  • 01Pick a preset or type the channel yourself. Source and medium fill in, the campaign name stays yours.
  • 02Every value is trimmed, lowercased and encoded before it is appended, so one tag never splits into two rows in reporting.
  • 03The URL rebuilds on every keystroke. Copy it, save several and export the batch as CSV, or send one to your workspace.

A naming convention that survives contact with a team

The tool cleans the format. It cannot fix an inconsistent convention, and that is what actually breaks reporting. Agree these five before the first link goes out.

ParameterRuleExample
utm_sourceThe platform, never the campaign. One spelling forever.facebook
utm_mediumThe channel type, from a fixed short list.paid_social
utm_campaignThe push, identical across every channel it runs on.ramadan-2027
utm_termThe keyword or the audience.hr-software-uae
utm_contentThe creative, so two ads in one ad set stay separable.ugc-video-a

Keep the medium list to about six values: cpc, paid_social, email, organic_social, referral, affiliate. Every extra value is a new row in every report, forever.

Questions

What do the five UTM parameters actually do?

Source names where the traffic came from, medium names the channel type, campaign names the push. Those three are what reporting groups on, so a link missing any of them lands in unassigned traffic. Term holds the paid keyword or audience, content separates two creatives running in the same ad set. Term and content are optional.

Why does this tool lowercase and trim everything?

Analytics treats Facebook and facebook as two different sources, and a trailing space creates a third. One inconsistent tag splits a single campaign across several rows and every number you read after that is wrong. Lowercasing and trimming at build time removes the most common cause of split reporting.

Can I put spaces in a campaign name?

You can, and they encode as %20, which is valid but ugly in reports and easy to break when the link is pasted into a chat app or a PDF. Hyphens or underscores are safer. This tool flags any space it finds and can replace them with hyphens in one click.

Should I put UTM parameters on internal links?

No. A UTM tagged internal link restarts the session in most analytics tools, so the original source is overwritten and a visitor who came from a paid ad is recorded as coming from your own homepage. Tag only links that arrive from outside the site: ads, email, partner placements, offline QR codes.
